Achilles: Six Months

Yes, you read that correctly, our little man is six months old.

In lieu of my 'Life in October' post, here is an Achilles update.

I thought I would take the time (mainly for me) to reflect over the last six months and how they have changed my life in the most amazing and chaotic way possible.

Being a parent is probably 100 times harder than I thought it would be. You honestly don't (and can't) think about all the things you have to do to raise a small human. They are literally your life 24/7!

If they're awake, you have to be awake, whether you're exhausted or whether it's 2am, they're awake, you have to be there. If they're crying, you have to figure out why and try to help.. and sometimes there isn't even a reason, they're just crying and just want to be held.

You lose a lot of me time and you have to try and create it yourself. And then you create it but all you want to do is sleep because you're so damn tired from everything else you need to do. There is a lot of sacrificing one to do another. E.g our house is rarely neat and tidy these days, there's toys everywhere, clean folded washing all over the house (and only folded because my Mum did it for us) and never in the cupboard where it's supposed to be and our bed has probably been made twice since Achilles was born. BUT we sacrifice those things to spend time with our son, to spend time with each other and to attempt to have some form of ourselves left after putting our everything in to our son.

In saying that becoming a parent is the hardest and most challenging thing I have ever done, it is also the most amazing, rewarding, unbelievable, incredible, entertaining and marvelous thing I have ever experienced in my life and I would not change it for the world.

Achilles is the happiest baby I have ever met (I'm not the only one who says this, ask anyone who has ever met him - including complete strangers). He is always smiling at everyone... I can even get him to smile while he is crying, he is just THAT happy to be alive.

He is now 7.4kg and 68cm long. He's still quite tiny for his age but given he was 3.1kg and 50.5cm when he was born, the doctor says his growing is right on track.

He is now army crawling all over the house and it is astonishing how fast he is! Look away for five seconds and he is at the other side of the room. He's starting to talk with "Hey" and "Dad' being two of his first words. Achilles is starting to pull himself up because he is so curious as to what he is missing out on if he was standing up! He has teeth, two obvious and and four more on their way out any minute now.  He now LOVES tummy time and exploring the lounge room. He also loves being outside as much as possible. He's been eating solids for two whole months now and he is such a big food fan. So far he hasn't disliked anything we have given him. His favourite dish so far is a blend of blueberries, apples and oats.

He LOVES jumping in his jolly jumper and he loves feeding himself even more than that.

He hates being in the pram because he would much rather you hold him so he can stare and smile at everything and everyone. When you hold him he will try to jump out of your arms so he can touch everything - he has no fear! I swear he will learn to walk ASAP just so he can explore on his own - he is certainly shaping up to become such an active toddler.

We are so grateful for every day we have with our son. We could not be more in love with him if we tried. Watching him grow and teaching him new things every single day is just so rewarding and makes my heart so incredibly happy.

As I said, it's not easy, Ben and I are beyond exhausted most days but we're such a great team and even if we are exhausted, we are beyond the meaning of happy!
