Our Baby Shower

Sunday, March 13 was our baby shower, held at our apartment. After my initial host cancelled Mum, Ben and I took over and managed to plan the most perfect day! Ben was supposed to work on the day but his shift was cancelled so we decided it would be fun if he stayed and I honestly am so glad he was there, I loved being able to share the day with him and open the presents together, I really don't understand why it's not more of a couple thing. I really loved having him there!

Co-hosting your own baby shower is extremely stressful and I honestly wouldn't recommend it to anyone. My advice is - have nothing to do with the preparation whatsoever and leave it up to others.

It was hard for me given we had to plan in such a short amount of time so I definitely did need to step in and help plan and prepare but if you can avoid it, AVOID IT! By 9am of the morning of my shower, Ben had sent me to bed because I was so drained from worrying about everything getting done in time not to mention I was emotional from getting last minute texts from guests saying they couldn't make it. Side note: don't text a pregnant woman on the day of her shower telling her you're not coming... she will cry lol. Either text the host number on the invitation or text the day after apologising for not making it.

Stressing aside.. once I had rested and Mum and Ben took over and everyone started arriving, I had the most amazing day and I could not have asked for a better shower. It was fun, the food was amazing (thanks to my Chef man Ben and my Mum), the cake was INCREDIBLE (made by my best friend of over 20 years Jess and her mum Sue) and everything was perfect!

Honestly, how amazing is this cake! You should see some of the others she has made. I keep telling her to go pro but she's also an engineer so she is sticking with that for a while haha.
I had such a wonderful time and so many important and special people in my life were able to attend - and Ben's Nanna who I was yet to meet!

We made and prepared all of the food ourselves which included sandwiches, wraps, quiches (made completely from scratch by Ben and were super popular), spring rolls (which were $2 for 16 from Coles and taste amazing - just ask everyone at my shower haha), spinach and cheese puffs, a mini pancake station with nutella, jam, cream, banana, strawberries and blueberries (my idea I stole from Pinterest), lamingtons, cupcakes, chocolates and caramel tarts!

I chose all of the games to play after lots of research and decided on the below games which were all super fun and everyone seemed to enjoy!

Guess the size of Tahana's waist
Guess baby A's name (one person actually did guess!!!)
Guess baby A's Birthday
Baby animal names
How handsome (guess which traits Mum wants baby to have from either Mum or Dad)
Guess how many lollies in the jar?

Some of these were free printables I found on Google, I got the birthday guessing calendar from Etsy here, I made the Guess Baby A's name cards myself using Microsoft word and bought some wool and a cute little basket for the waist guessing game (we already had the chalk board).

I (with the help of my dad) also made a mini photo-booth (I printed the props myself and stuck them to wooden squewers!) outside for photos and had a drink station set up on arrival with Fairy Floss flavoured drink (which we bought because it was blue).

We tied little dummies and rocking horses on to the glasses with ribbon

Made by my Aunty and cousin <3

My Dad made this for baby A.. how amazing is it?!

Baby A is one lucky little man to have so many people who love him already!
Yes, I have talented parents, my gorgeous mum made this out of nappies and baby goodies! It's a PRAM!

As thank you gifts to guests, I found these cute measuring spoons which I put together with a blue love heart chocolate in a brown paper bag with a cutomised sticker from VistaPrint. <3

I ordered a beautiful maternity dress from ASOS however, when it arrived, it looked NOTHING like the photo so I had to get my dress last minute from Ally. I actually love it and it may even fit me without the belly for a little while as well. You can check it out here... although it's not maternity, it's super stretchy so can fit a nice big belly in there!

My amazing talented cake-maker/ engineer best friend!
The day honestly could not have gone better and I cannot thank my beautiful friends and family enough for making it such a perfect day and one I will remember forever!

Keep smiling!

  11. Nice baby shower baby shower photos these are. It reminds me of my baby shower times, when my friends and relatives surprised me with an unusual gift. I can't describe here how happy I was in that time. I didn't know absolutely that they would do such things. I'm very much thankful to them. And now I'm waiting for my daughter's baby shower. It’s hard to imagine--she has grown so fast. And I'm happy that I'll be a granny for the first time.

  12. Truly an adorable party. Liked your photos a lot. Thanks for sharing pictures my friend. At one of local New York venues, I am going to throw a baby shower for my cousin. Will be a geeky boy party and have already made few DIY décor crafts for the bash.
