Skin Care Routine

I don't know about you but my skin care routine changes quite often. I love to incorporate new products all the time especially when I am recommended them by friends or fellow bloggers.

I've been using this routine for a few months now and it's pretty perfect. Despite eating a lot of crap (oops) this routine has managed to keep my skin pretty clear.

Cleanser: emerginC multi-fruit cleanser

This is a soap free, super gentle yet extremely effective cleanser. It removes make up and dirt and always leaves my face looking super fresh. Occasionally if I have left my make up on I will do a double cleanse just to be sure everything has been removed and my skin feels amazing and it doesn't dry it out which is perfect for me considering I already have dry skin. Emergin C is a cosmeceutical skin care brand so the ingredients in their products are super active and there aren't useless fillers like most brands you will find in pharmacies, department stores etc. They also don't use parabens, synthetic fragrances or synthetic colours in any of their formulations which is why I will continue to use this brand!

Exfoliator: Elucent Whitening Exfoliating Cleanser

Whilst the cleanser I use is HIGHLY effective and I don't really feel the need to exfoliate, out of habit, I still do 1-2 times per fortnight. This one has teeny tiny little beads so it's not too harsh on your skin. It is also soap free (I prefer soap free products as they don't dry out my skin like other products do). Using this 1-2 times per fortnight really allows me to see how effective it is! My skin always feels extra smooth after massaging this in to my face and neck. I also use this on my decolletage which helps it look brighter and healthier (I have a lot of sun damage).

Toner: emerginC Peach toner

I know the picture says 'each toner' haha but the P must have rubbed off. I have never been a huge fan of toners. I never knew the point of them and they always seem to make my skin red raw and irritate my skin a lot! This one is almost completely natural whilst still highly active and I actually love using it! It has such a refreshing effect on my skin.

Serum: emerginC Vitamin C serum

*in Janice from Friends' voice* "Ohhhhhh myyyyyy godddddd".....
This serum is AMAZING, INCREDIBLE, FANTASTIC and every other over the top describing word you can think of haha. This is one of the most stable, high concentration vitamin C liquid gel serums on the market. It claims to:
Fights free-radical damage, antioxidant, key co-factor in the production of collagen, improves skin tone and texture, calming, fights sun damage, improves pigmentation problems.Ummm yes! It actually does all of that. I have been using this serum for around 4 months now and my skin is SOOOO much brighter and less pigmented than it was before. I use the excess product on the back of my hands and my decolletage and it has helped fade my freckles a lot! I highly recommend incorporating this serum in to your skin care routine. It's a bit on the pricey side (RRP$99 for the full size) but it is very much worth it!

I will never be without this... ever! Unless my beauty therapist finds me something better of course!

Day Moisturiser: Elucent Whitening Day Moisturiser

I think I have said this like one million times before but I don't like moisturisers with sunscreen in them (well not usually) however this one is great! It goes on all white and oily like a normal sunscreen but after letting it soak in to my skin, it leaves the perfect base to apply my primer and has no impact on my foundation or other make up application whatsoever. It really is a great hydrating cream and helps ensure I have no dry spots on my skin during the day which helps my make up looks flawless.

Night Moisturiser:Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream

So this one is actually also a day cream but it's so good I use it at night time. This one claims to: Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream is clinically proven to reduce the appearance of wrinkle depth by up to 78%, and increase hydration and moisture levels by up to 45%*. This powerful anti-ageing cream provides a progressive lifting effect through increased collagen support. This cream has helped with the hydration of my skin immensely! I have definitely found my skin looks firmer as well. I love putting on a thick layer before bed and waking up to incredible soft and smooth skin!

Sun protection: Sun Sense Sport SPF 50+

So i know my day cream already has sun protection in it but when I know I am going to be spending time in the sun, I always put this on as well (whether I wear make up or not). If I am wearing make up when I use this cream, i just let it soak in to my skin for 3-5 minutes before I apply my primer to ensure it doesn't effect the primer or my foundation. If you've read my previous posts, you know how important I think sun protection is (if you haven't read my previous post, it's here). 50+ protection is ideal when you're going to be spending time in the sun.

Face Mask: Nat. Salon Rebalance Face Mask

Read my review of this one here but in short... AMAZING! Love love love. I'm on my third tube and love what it does for my skin. The best weekly treatment.

Lip care: ChapStick Night Repair

So "night repair"....This thing is so good I carry it with me every where I go. I am constantly applying this to my lips. It helped me get through some really difficult dry lip times earlier this month and has kept my lips super dooper soft ever since. Almost due for a new tube and I plan to stock up. Highly recommend this one for this coming Winter! Check it out here on ChapStick's website!

Lip Care: Lush Cosmetics Bubblegum Lip Scrub

So it's clear this jar has lasted me months and months! I use this once a week or once a fortnight in Summer/ Spring but when the weather starts cooling down I up the anti and scrub my lips at least twice a week. It's important to remove the dead skin from your lips before there's so much of it, it looks like your lips are literally falling off! This one from LUSH Cosmetics is great as it's bubblegum flavour and completely natural so you can lick the excess from your lips once you're done scrubbing. Nom nom nom!

How to Stay Active in the Office

When you have a desk job like me, you know how hard it is to stay active whilst at work especially when you're busy. Since purchasing a FitBit, I have been tracking my activity during the day and realised how inactive I am during my work hours. Normally, by the end of the day at work, I've hit between 3000-4000 steps which isn't very many at all. There have been a number of articles lately about the negative effects having an inactive lifestle can have on your health. Whilst I am extremely active (most of the time) outside of work, I spend 7-10 hours at work, five days a week and when you add up that time, it's a good chunk of your week and making minor adjustments to your day can help you be more active during your working hours.

The changes I have made have really made a significant difference to my activity levels during my working hours. Below are the changes I have made and will hopefully help you to be more active at work too!

1. Walk, ride or catch public transport to work

For a while, I drove to work for the convenience. There's parking right outside the door, it saves me time and it meant I didn't have to deal with public transport which I normally hate. I started catching the bus (which actually isn't that bad at all). It means I get to walk to and from the bus stop and to work from the stop (sometimes, if I have time, I get off one stop before mine and get in some extra activity time). If you already catch public transport and you're unable to walk to work, getting off a stop or two early is definitely a great way to increase your steps!

2. Spend your lunch break outside

Ok so this is  from a recent hike of mine but just the feeling of going out side after being cooped up in the office is really liberating!
Sometimes we get so caught up with work, we forget about ourselves and the need for a break and just eat lunch at our desks. I have made it compulsory for myself to spend at least some of my lunch break outside to go for a walk, whether it be five minutes or the full thirty minutes, I go outside. It is actually really refreshing to step outside the office for some fresh air on a daily basis and actually leaves me more motivated and energised for the afternoon.

3. Get up from your desk as often as possible

What I really feel like doing all day at work. Being more active has definitely given me a lot more energy and even made me more motivated to do more work!
I've started setting a silent alarm on my FitBit every half hour to remind me to get up from my desk. Fill your water bottle, go to the bathroom or visit a colleague. Just use any excuse to get up from your desk for a few minutes. This one also helps me to drink more water as I normally finish whatever is in my bottle so I have an excuse to get up.

4. Track your steps

Quick press of a button and I know how active I have been for the day! This was taken at 12pm and already over 4,000 steps!
Honestly, getting a FitBit has been the most motivating thing I've done in a while. Being able to see, at a glance, how many steps and kilomteres I have done is really encouraging when it comes to being more active. Obviously, you don't have to go out and buy a FitBit (even though I think they're super awesome), a simple pedometer is just as effective at motivating you to achieve your daily step goal (they recommend 10,000 steps a day - they being the World Health Organisation.. I found an article here on why they chose 10,000 steps). Tracking really motivates me to be more active. I try to get as many steps as possible. Bulk of my active time is spent lifting weights (does not contribute to the step count) and whilst it's great, I definitely want to increase my cardio fitness and this is a great way to achieve that and track how active I am being.

5. Set a Challenge with your friends

The different challenges you can do with your friends!
When you have a FitBit, you can invite your friends to be buddies on the app and you can set certain challenges together. This is great for competitive people and a great way to motivate eachother to be more active. If a FitBit isn't in your budget right now, get a pedometer and get a friend to get one too and see who can get the most steps each day. I have a group on Facebook called Talk Healthy To Me and the members who have a FitBit have been doing the Workweek Hustle where the person with the most steps at the end of the work week wins. If you want to be a part of the group, you can join here and we can add you to the challenges in the future!

Five small changes have made the biggest difference and actually make me feel like I have more energy throughout the day. You know what they say about those endorphins!
