It Just Doesn't Work For Me.... P2

This week on "It just doesn't work for me..." we're talking primers!

L'Oreal Base Magique Transforming Smoothing "Primer"

When it comes to primers, I feel like I have tried thousands. Some work and some fail miserably! L'Oreal Base Magique Transforming Smoothing Primer just doesn't work for me.

The first time I used it (alone), I was impressed with how it filled in my pores and actually did make my skin look a lot smoother. I always like to try a primer for the first time just on my skin, without applying make up after, just to see what it does (whether it goes dry, oily, patchy etc) and this was a patchy one (some days, the product actually dried out on my skin and started flaking). I found some of my skin was oily and some was dry and my skin felt really slimy. I tried using a lot of product and I tried using a really tiny amount and of course, somewhere in between but felt nothing was working.

When I tried it with makeup, it was like everything was just sliding around. There was no sinking in to the skin to prep, it just sort of sat on top of my skin and didn't allow my makeup to set at all. It does have a matte finish but it's more of a dull matte finish. I feel like it leaves me looking very pale and lifeless (too dramatic?)

I used over half the jar trying to get it to work for me!

As you can see from the pictures, I did give it a good go! I've used almost half the jar. I did wear it a few times on no makeup days to minimise pore size (even though it only lasts a few short hours before it starts to separate) but this one is definitely not a makeup primer in my eyes. I feel like the formula is just too thick to be able to work in to the skin for a smooth base.

As you can see, it's quite a thick formula. Very hard to work with!

Have you tried the L'Oreal Base Magique Transforming Smoothing Primer? What are your thoughts?

First Impression - NAT. FACE Rebalance Clay Mask

I am such a huge fan of face masks. I love that when you get a really good one, it can transform your face almost instantly! This one my NAT. is no exception! It's a part of their rebalance line which I didn't realise is actually for oily/ combination skin (I have dry skin).

Love the packaging!!

From NAT. website: Combining just the right balance of plant extracts from the Australian tea tree, lavender and chamomile, these are just some botanicals that are known to treat, soothe and heal the skin. NAT.FACE rebalance is formulated to balance the natural oil production of the skin with just the right moisture level. NAT.FACE rebalance is highly effective for combination oily skin types. When used regularly, complexion will look and feel renewed and rebalanced to its natural beautiful condition.

My First Impression of this mask is that it is amazing. It has actually worked wonders for my dry skin, leaving it super moisturised and really soft which actually surprised me. Other face masks I have used have always left my face feeling soft but not many actually help with helping to moisturise with many leaving my skin feeling stripped and quite dry afterwards (anyone else get this with clay masks??).

Perfect for pamper nights with the girls! X

I love the unique thick clay formula. This one is like no other clay mask I have used. When it dries, it dries in a way that's dry to touch, but doesn't crack and flake away from your face.

What I did: Cleansed my face as per normal, applied the mask and left on for approximately 20 minutes. Rinsed with warm water and then admired my smaller pores and my smooth and moisturised face (I couldn't stop touching).

Another thing I love about the formula is that it's so easy to remove. It doesn't stick to your skin like other clay masks and because it doesn't crack, there's no mess!

One slightly negative (yet necessary) action of the mask is that because it draws out impurities, I did have a few tiny bumps on my chin the next morning (wasn't worrying at all - it was just I hadn't had any blemishes in a few weeks so I put it down to the mask working its wonders). A few days later and I have a few more bumps (they're so tiny and super easy to get rid of) but the rest of my face is still left extremely soft and I do think it did give my pores a really deep clean!

From NAT. Website: rebalance clay mask 100g clay mask to deeply cleanse, purify and refine pores for combination to oily; uses natural clay to purify and refine the skin, 100% natural lemon essences works to brighten and deeply cleanse whilst Aloe Vera helps softens and sooth the skin.

They also recommend to use this mask at least once a week which I definitely will be doing.

It just doesn't work for me... Part 1

So I normally tend to only review products I enjoy using but every now and then I come across a product I'm a little dissapointed in. I got to thinking, there's no harm in sharing the reasons why I don't like particular products so I have decided to start a little series called "It just doesnt work for me..." This will just include a mini review on the product and the reasons why it doesnt work for me and my thoughts on who it may work for! I hope you enjoy!

The first product is the Rimmel London Stay Matte Powder. I tried to love this, I really did. I even had the coloured version (sand 04) and switched to the translucent on the advice of my followers. Unfortunately, both are an absolute fail for me.

My skin isnt as dry as it used to be but it certainly isn't oily by any means. This powder just sucks any form of dewyness from my skin and leaves it looking flakey and extremely powdery. I haven't had this issue with a powder before.

It has the tendency to trick me. I've tried it quite a few times as I really wanted to love it like so many people. It would look so good when I first applied it but boom... An hour later and I look like I haven't had water for days! It cakes up and makes my foundation separate.

Who it would suit: Any one with oily skin (definitely lives up to the matte name!)

Let me know in the comments what you think of this product whether you love it or it just doesn't work for you either!

Keep smiling!

First Impression - Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipsticks (includingswatches)

When these four showed up on my door step I was super excited as I realised I didn't actually have one Rimmell Lipstick in my collection!

I'm in love with the purple packaging of this line. They're super sleek and I love how they shine with the touch of silver.

This range is a super creamy high gloss formula that literally glides on your lips.

Picture from Rimmell London Website - Shows the creaminess of the formula

I was sent four colours from the line. Here are my swatches and thoughts of each colour.

500 Diva Red

This one is such a gorgeous red. It's a really deep colour and has a blue undertone which is great for making your teeth look nice and white! I didn't use a lip liner for this application (actually I never use lip liner) and its pretty neat. No bleeding out which is a plus and it looks perfect and smooth on the lips.

220 Heather Shimmer

For me, this isn't a colour I would normally reach for on any occasion. Whilst it's super pretty, it's not my colour. I think this one would be more suited to mature skin so I might give it to Mum. This one is not as opaque or creamy as 500 or 360 but still has quite a good colour pay off.

210 Fancy

If I'm honest when I swatched this one on my arm, I was really disappointed, I thought it would swatch much prettier than it did. Then I put it on my lips and I fell in love! Its a sheer yet shimmery baby pink and I absolutely love this colour on my lips. This is a perfect every day colour for me.

360 As you Want Victoria

This one is my favourite of the bunch. It'd a beautiful deep fuchsia (with a hint of a red).  This colour is amazing and it's so pigmented, its crazy! This application was literally one swipe! Such a pretty glossy yet creamy formula. Once again, no lip pencil and the application still isn't too bad!

Verdict

So many ticks for this amazing range by Rimmel! I love the packaging, they smell amazing (kind of the vanilla smell that MAC lipsticks have), they're highly pigmented and they stay on for ages (3-4 hours without reapplying however they do lose their glossiness after around 2 hours). The darker colours do leave a stain which I actually don't mind except for the stains that were left on my arm after swatching all day lol. They're also super affordable. You can get these from Priceline for $13.65. I want to collect them all!

Have you tried any of the colours in this line yet? Show me your swatches/ looks on instagram! @beautybytahanalee
