Don't Let The Sun Steal Your Beauty!

Today I partner with Ego Pharmaceuticals and their amazing brand SunSense to bring your attention to the importance of sun protection, especially coming in to Summer.

Are you frying in the sun? Join me and SunSense to help spread the word about sun protection!

Words from SunSense: UV Radiation is the biggest controllable cause of premature skin ageing and in a study led by Professor Adele Green of the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, it has finally been shown that regular sunscreen use can help prevent premature ageing.

Over Summer, we are so often reminded not to head out into the sun without adequate protection, but this new research proves that sun protection is not just about making sure you are lathered in sunscreen when you head to the beach, it is just as important to protect your skin daily.

When it comes to sun damage, prevention is always better than cure and that's why pharmacy favourite SunSense developed the leading sunscreen range with products designed specifically for the face. Each SunSense Face Sunscreen is specifically develop to address different skin types and individual skin concerns and offers the highest UV protection in Australia.

Words from Me: Almost every day growing up, my mum would constantly ask me before I left the house "Have you got your suncreen on, Tahana?" EVERYDAY! And let me tell you, it drove me crazy. When you're young, you don't understand the importance of some things and this was one of them. Now that I'm almost 27 and some people think I'm 20, I have a lot to thank my mother for!

Obviously, in this case, looks aren't the most important thing considering sun damage can lead to cancer, which can lead to death. I can never stress enough the importance of sun protection.

I (and my mum and most women in my family actually) have quite fair skin which is extremely sensitive to sun damage (hence the one million freckles all over my body). As a child, I spent A LOT of time outdoors playing sports etc. so I did get a lot of sun exposure but thanks to mum, I was protected.

I love the non greasy formula! It' actually perfect!

A little information about freckles:
Freckles are thought to develop as a result of a combination of genetic tendency (inheritance) and sun exposure. Two people receiving the same sun exposure may not have an equal chance of developing freckles. Natural sunlight and artificial suntanning lights emit ultraviolet (UV) rays. After exposure to ultraviolet rays, the outer layer of the skin (the epidermis) thickens and the pigment-producing cells (the melanocytes) produces the pigment melanin at an increased rate. (This production of melanin may give some protection against future sun exposure.)
Of course, people differ a great deal in their reaction to sunlight. To take an extreme example, there is no pigmentation in the skin of an albino because of a defect in melanin metabolism. On the other hand, people with dark complexions are relatively less sensitive to sun exposure than fair-skinned people. However, people with dark skin are not entirely resistant to the effects of the sun, and they, too, can become sunburned with prolonged exposure. People with blond or red hair, light-colored eyes, and fair skin are especially susceptible to the damaging effect of UV rays.
Freckling is caused by the uneven distribution of the melanin pigment in the skin. A freckle is essentially nothing more than an unusually heavy deposit of melanin at one spot in the skin.

The reason my mother and I feel so strongly about sun protection is because a lot of people in our family have developed skin cancer (including her).

Mum has had quite a few cut out over the years and most recently (just last week) she had to have one cut out of her nose which was a Basal Cell Carcinoma aka BCC (read more about what this is here)

She has been brave enough to share a photo of the aftermath of getting this one cut out. Perhaps something to think about next time you head out in to the sun without protection.

Before mum had this cut out, you wouldn't have even known there was anything wrong. Only a skin cancer check revealed the BCC - Ensure you book in for one ASAP.

Words from Mum: When I was younger, there was no education about sun protection. We never wore suncreen or hats. Sun damage was never spoken about. You could even go to school and play sport without a hat or sunscreen. I still think more education needs to be provided around the importance of protecting your skin but I admit, it's a lot better than it used to be. My advice to everyone would be to wear sunscreen everyday, even if you're only going to be in the sun for a short time. Keep in mind spending as little as 15 minutes in the sun can cause damage to your skin and sun damage can take years to appear as visible symptoms.

Back to me: I cannot agree with SunSense more about the importance of protecting your skin not just for a day at the beach or pool but everyday. We are constantly exposed to the sun. On our morning run, on our walk to work or the train/bus station, watching family members play sport etc etc. It's time to start thinking about the effects this can have on your health and also your physical appearance! No one wants to age early, have scars all over their bodies from having skin cancers cut out and it's definitely not attractive to be that old woman on the beach that looks like her skin is made from leather. Its never too early or too late to start taking care of your skin and protecting it from the Sun!

Sometimes I hear people say things like: I want to go to the solarium because being tanned makes me look hot, I hate wearing sunscreen because it makes my skin look oily and I don't look as pretty, if I wear a hat and sunglasses, I won't be able to see my face in beach selfies, I'm not wearing sunscreen because I want to tan. I admit I have been the "want to tan" person when I was younger but my god...stop being so vain and look after yourself. You know what's not cool...having skin cancer and having scars on your body from having them removed... or, you know, dying of skin cancer!!

It still surprises me when I find daily moisturisers these days that don't have SPF protection in them. My beloved Milk moisturiser doesn't have it either however, I still use it daily and just put my sunscreen over the top before my foundation.

Now that's over we get to the fun part... the PRODUCTS.... here's what I'll be using this Summer to protect my skin!

SunSense Moisturising Face SPF 50+ RRP $13.95 (also comes in Anti-Ageing)

This one has been in my hand bag constantly this week! I think it now has a permanent home!

A light moisturising, oil free sunscreen. I have been using this all week and I LOVE it. I've had a few make up free days this week and normally, the sunscreen I use is a little greasy and leaves me looking oily but this one is just perfect. It's also non-comedogenic so it won't block your pores (score!). Best thing about it (for me) is it's fragrance free. It really turns me off a product (especially a moisturiser) if it has fragrance in it as I find that is so harsh on my skin. Blend this one all over the face, ears and neck. On days I spend outside, I will apply this to my face every two hours.

Non greasy! I tell you, its the perfect day time moisturiser!

SunSense Clear mist Spray SPF 50  RRP  $17.99

The most simple, easy and convenient way to stay protected on the daily.. no more excuses!

I love this for all over body use. Absorbs in to the skin super quick. It's preservative free so its also good for oily and acne prone skin (I remember as a teen breaking out after wearing certain sunscreens - won't happen with this one guys!) It's also water resistant for three whole hours so perfect for the beach or pool. I just love mist sunscreens! They're just so easy and convenient! No excuse not to be protected really, huh?

SunSense Lip Balm SPF 50+  RRP  $5.95

I love how non sunscreen like it is whilst still having 50+ protection! Handbag essential ladies!

Lips! The most forgotten about body part (along with your feet and back of the hands) when it comes to sun protection. This baby has cocoa butter and Vitamin E so not only is it going to protect your kissers from sun damage but it will keep them super soft as well. Also, doesn't taste anything like sunscreen!

New beauty bestie??? YES!

SunSense Sport SPF 50+ 75g tube  RRP  $8.95

This has not and will not leave my gym bag!

Most of you know I am heavily in to sports. I love my running so this one is perfect for that. As with the others, its non-comedogenic so won't clog your pores and I have tested this and it's sweat proof! Ones I have tried in the past always got in my eyes when sweating and yeah, that hurts. This one is nice and gentle.

SunSense is the number one selling sunscreen in Australian Pharmacy and the best thing about it is that it is made and tested right here in Australia.

All of the above products AND MORE are available exclusively in pharmacies and Priceline stores nationally (Priceline Sister Points for sun protection ladies, can you go wrong?!!)

If you have some spare time, please take the time to check out the SunSense & Cancer Council websites. They have a lot of information about sun protection and the damage that can be caused to your skin if you're not protected properly.

I'm in love... with Milk & Co Ultra Light Moisturiser!

It must be love <3

So when I read "Ultra Light Moisturiser" I immediately thought it wouldn't be mositurising enough for my super dry skin. Boy was I wrong! This cream is one of a kind! The first time I used it, I swear my eyes almost popped out of my head in amazement at how soft it made my skin, immediately!

I've been using this as my day cream for the last two weeks now and I am so impressed. Not only does it make my skin feel as soft as silk (actual compliment I have received since using it) but it has actually hydrated my skin, permanently! I don't want to jinx it... but I actually feel like I don't have dry skin any more! Right?! I am as shocked as you.. maybe even more! I've even been using any excess (a little goes a very long way with this one) on my arms and elbows and it's kept them quite hydrated as well!

Another thing I love about this cream is how fast it absorbs in to your skin. Within a few seconds, you can touch your skin and it feels like you've got nothing on it at all, your skin is just amazingly soft.

I am absolutely in love with the Milk & Co Ultra Light Moisturiser and the BEST part is, it's Australian made and owned - by our very own Michael & Lindy Kim (I actually had no idea until I added Milk & Co on instagram - just made me love the brand even more!)

The formula has Vitamin E, Aloe Vera & Jojoba oil (all ingredients that are amazing for the hydration of your skin). I really encourage everyone to try this moisturiser, they say it's for all skin types and given how well it has worked on my dry skin, I agree!

You can purchase this amazing moisturiser from the Milk & Co website here or at your local Woolworths, Coles or Priceline.

What Milk & Co say: The perfect Ultra Light Moisturiser that evokes dreams of the most amazing tropical holiday – wherever you are! Enriched with our hero ingredient DuraQuench™, which dries quickly, leaving a refreshing, protective layer against today’s nasties, whilst also providing long lasting hydration. Perfect for all skin types.

Have you tried this or any other Milk & Co products? Let me know in the comments below what you thought.

It Just Doesn't Work For Me.... P2

This week on "It just doesn't work for me..." we're talking primers!

L'Oreal Base Magique Transforming Smoothing "Primer"

When it comes to primers, I feel like I have tried thousands. Some work and some fail miserably! L'Oreal Base Magique Transforming Smoothing Primer just doesn't work for me.

The first time I used it (alone), I was impressed with how it filled in my pores and actually did make my skin look a lot smoother. I always like to try a primer for the first time just on my skin, without applying make up after, just to see what it does (whether it goes dry, oily, patchy etc) and this was a patchy one (some days, the product actually dried out on my skin and started flaking). I found some of my skin was oily and some was dry and my skin felt really slimy. I tried using a lot of product and I tried using a really tiny amount and of course, somewhere in between but felt nothing was working.

When I tried it with makeup, it was like everything was just sliding around. There was no sinking in to the skin to prep, it just sort of sat on top of my skin and didn't allow my makeup to set at all. It does have a matte finish but it's more of a dull matte finish. I feel like it leaves me looking very pale and lifeless (too dramatic?)

I used over half the jar trying to get it to work for me!

As you can see from the pictures, I did give it a good go! I've used almost half the jar. I did wear it a few times on no makeup days to minimise pore size (even though it only lasts a few short hours before it starts to separate) but this one is definitely not a makeup primer in my eyes. I feel like the formula is just too thick to be able to work in to the skin for a smooth base.

As you can see, it's quite a thick formula. Very hard to work with!

Have you tried the L'Oreal Base Magique Transforming Smoothing Primer? What are your thoughts?

First Impression - NAT. FACE Rebalance Clay Mask

I am such a huge fan of face masks. I love that when you get a really good one, it can transform your face almost instantly! This one my NAT. is no exception! It's a part of their rebalance line which I didn't realise is actually for oily/ combination skin (I have dry skin).

Love the packaging!!

From NAT. website: Combining just the right balance of plant extracts from the Australian tea tree, lavender and chamomile, these are just some botanicals that are known to treat, soothe and heal the skin. NAT.FACE rebalance is formulated to balance the natural oil production of the skin with just the right moisture level. NAT.FACE rebalance is highly effective for combination oily skin types. When used regularly, complexion will look and feel renewed and rebalanced to its natural beautiful condition.

My First Impression of this mask is that it is amazing. It has actually worked wonders for my dry skin, leaving it super moisturised and really soft which actually surprised me. Other face masks I have used have always left my face feeling soft but not many actually help with helping to moisturise with many leaving my skin feeling stripped and quite dry afterwards (anyone else get this with clay masks??).

Perfect for pamper nights with the girls! X

I love the unique thick clay formula. This one is like no other clay mask I have used. When it dries, it dries in a way that's dry to touch, but doesn't crack and flake away from your face.

What I did: Cleansed my face as per normal, applied the mask and left on for approximately 20 minutes. Rinsed with warm water and then admired my smaller pores and my smooth and moisturised face (I couldn't stop touching).

Another thing I love about the formula is that it's so easy to remove. It doesn't stick to your skin like other clay masks and because it doesn't crack, there's no mess!

One slightly negative (yet necessary) action of the mask is that because it draws out impurities, I did have a few tiny bumps on my chin the next morning (wasn't worrying at all - it was just I hadn't had any blemishes in a few weeks so I put it down to the mask working its wonders). A few days later and I have a few more bumps (they're so tiny and super easy to get rid of) but the rest of my face is still left extremely soft and I do think it did give my pores a really deep clean!

From NAT. Website: rebalance clay mask 100g clay mask to deeply cleanse, purify and refine pores for combination to oily; uses natural clay to purify and refine the skin, 100% natural lemon essences works to brighten and deeply cleanse whilst Aloe Vera helps softens and sooth the skin.

They also recommend to use this mask at least once a week which I definitely will be doing.

It just doesn't work for me... Part 1

So I normally tend to only review products I enjoy using but every now and then I come across a product I'm a little dissapointed in. I got to thinking, there's no harm in sharing the reasons why I don't like particular products so I have decided to start a little series called "It just doesnt work for me..." This will just include a mini review on the product and the reasons why it doesnt work for me and my thoughts on who it may work for! I hope you enjoy!

The first product is the Rimmel London Stay Matte Powder. I tried to love this, I really did. I even had the coloured version (sand 04) and switched to the translucent on the advice of my followers. Unfortunately, both are an absolute fail for me.

My skin isnt as dry as it used to be but it certainly isn't oily by any means. This powder just sucks any form of dewyness from my skin and leaves it looking flakey and extremely powdery. I haven't had this issue with a powder before.

It has the tendency to trick me. I've tried it quite a few times as I really wanted to love it like so many people. It would look so good when I first applied it but boom... An hour later and I look like I haven't had water for days! It cakes up and makes my foundation separate.

Who it would suit: Any one with oily skin (definitely lives up to the matte name!)

Let me know in the comments what you think of this product whether you love it or it just doesn't work for you either!

Keep smiling!

First Impression - Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipsticks (includingswatches)

When these four showed up on my door step I was super excited as I realised I didn't actually have one Rimmell Lipstick in my collection!

I'm in love with the purple packaging of this line. They're super sleek and I love how they shine with the touch of silver.

This range is a super creamy high gloss formula that literally glides on your lips.

Picture from Rimmell London Website - Shows the creaminess of the formula

I was sent four colours from the line. Here are my swatches and thoughts of each colour.

500 Diva Red

This one is such a gorgeous red. It's a really deep colour and has a blue undertone which is great for making your teeth look nice and white! I didn't use a lip liner for this application (actually I never use lip liner) and its pretty neat. No bleeding out which is a plus and it looks perfect and smooth on the lips.

220 Heather Shimmer

For me, this isn't a colour I would normally reach for on any occasion. Whilst it's super pretty, it's not my colour. I think this one would be more suited to mature skin so I might give it to Mum. This one is not as opaque or creamy as 500 or 360 but still has quite a good colour pay off.

210 Fancy

If I'm honest when I swatched this one on my arm, I was really disappointed, I thought it would swatch much prettier than it did. Then I put it on my lips and I fell in love! Its a sheer yet shimmery baby pink and I absolutely love this colour on my lips. This is a perfect every day colour for me.

360 As you Want Victoria

This one is my favourite of the bunch. It'd a beautiful deep fuchsia (with a hint of a red).  This colour is amazing and it's so pigmented, its crazy! This application was literally one swipe! Such a pretty glossy yet creamy formula. Once again, no lip pencil and the application still isn't too bad!

Verdict

So many ticks for this amazing range by Rimmel! I love the packaging, they smell amazing (kind of the vanilla smell that MAC lipsticks have), they're highly pigmented and they stay on for ages (3-4 hours without reapplying however they do lose their glossiness after around 2 hours). The darker colours do leave a stain which I actually don't mind except for the stains that were left on my arm after swatching all day lol. They're also super affordable. You can get these from Priceline for $13.65. I want to collect them all!

Have you tried any of the colours in this line yet? Show me your swatches/ looks on instagram! @beautybytahanalee

Keep Smiling!

First Impression - COVERGIRL CG Smoothers BB Cream

I am FINALLY at that stage in life where if I eat right, exercise and drink lots of water, my skin stays fairly clear! Gone are the days where I need to whip out my full coverage foundation on a daily basis.

For months, I have been searching for a BB cream that will suit my skin. I have tried what feels like all of them and all have left me disappointed and with purchase regret. Because of this, I regularly rock the "au natural" look to work.

All of the BB creams I had tried until now, had left me with a shiny, greasy and uneven face I would not leave the house with!

When I recently was sent a BB cream by Cover Girl, I had absolutely no expectations and thought it would be just like the others.

My new holy grail BB cream

I decided to try it anyway to add it to the list of BB creams that weren't for me.

At first, when I applied, it looked like disappointment was imminent (it was a little shiny)! However, a few minutes later, it had sunk in to my skin, giving an (almost) flawless finish! I was so surprised and really loved the way it sat on my skin. A little glow here and there but no greasy or shiny areas!

Colour = 810 Light-Medium

I was ecstatic so I decided to leave it on during the day to monitor  it's wear time and boy was I impressed! Below are photos I had taken just after application at around 10am, after lunch at 1:30pm and in the afternoon around 4:00pm.

Just after application at 10am

After lunch around 1:30pm - I think it looks better here as it's had more time to adjust to my skin.

Around 4pm, it started to go a little shiny. Nothing too serious though.

As you can see, around the 4:00pm (6 hour mark) my face did start to get a little shiny. Not a huge deal as I fixed it with a little translucent powder.

The COVERGIRL CG smoothers BB cream contains SPF 21 which is a must for anything that goes on your face during the day! It also claims to have 10 skin friendly benefits
  1. Natural looking radiance - tick! Had me glowing (in a good way) almost all day!
  2. Sheer colour - tick!
  3. All day hydration - tick! No cakeyness or dry spots anywhere in sight!
  4. Improves skin elasticity - yet to be seen although I'm pretty sure my elasticity was fine to begin with lol
  5. Broad spectrum SPF 21 - tick! Pretty great sun protection!
  6. Blends effortlessly - tick! I find it's easier to blend with your fingers for this one!
  7. Lightweight - tick! It was like wearing nothing at all! (Nothing at all, nothing at all) - my Simpsons fans will get that reference haha
  8. Helps skin feel smooth - tick! My skin felt extremely soft and smooth in this cream!
  9. Covers to help instantly improve skins appearance - tick! Very much agree! It covered my acne scaring perfectly. The scaring was still visible but it evened out the skin tone.
  10. Won't clog pores - tick! You guys know I have gigantic pores and this even helped to reduce their appearance.

I've been using this BB cream for almost a week now and I'm in love! It's hard for me to comprehend I have finally found a BB cream that works for me!This BB cream is now part of my daily makeup routine and I highly recommend you try it out and let me know your thoughts.

Makes for a very simple yet effective FOTD

My colour is number 810 - Light - Medium.

Let me know in the comments what your holy grail BB cream is! Would love to try out a few others!

Keep smiling!

Mario Badescu DRYING LOTION Review

For some reason (well actually I’m lying, I know my eating habits are the exact reason) I’ve had a really bad month, skinwise. I’ve been continuously breaking out in gross whiteheads on my chin and jawline areas.

Mario Badescu has more than come to my rescue! He has provided a product that ensures I never have to worry about an ugly whitehead on my face again! I know what you’re thinking… how is this possible? Well, keep reading and I will tell you exactly how!

I purchased this from Mecca Maxima on a complete whim only hearing a few things here and there about it but, as I do, I didn’t pay attention. I was missing out on what I am going to call – The best product in my world (right now … always room for improvement).

I have been using this drying lotion for over two weeks now and I can honestly say it definitely works.

The product comes in a small glass bottle – pictured below. There is a pink sediment on the bottom with a yellowish substance filling up the rest of the bottle. These layers must be kept separate and Mario recommends if the products have been mixed during delivery or travel, place the bottle on the flat surface until the layers separate and the pinks sediment rests on the bottom.

To use, simply get a cotton swab/ tip and place it into the bottle all the way in to reach the pink sediment. The cotton tip will also pick up the yellowish solution and form some sort of chemical reaction and forms the two together and somehow doesn’t drip off the cotton tip. Once you have removed the cotton tip from the bottle, dab the product on to your blemishes. Be careful to only apply to your problem areas as the ingredients in this product are extremely drying.  I always do this at night time and leave the product on overnight whilst I sleep so it has plenty of time to work its magic. Any residue will come off when you cleanse your face in the morning. It’s that simple. (Tip: don't double dip your cotton tip back in to the bottle if you need more! Grab a fresh one otherwise you will be putting bacteria in to the product)

I normally do this after I cleanse and exfoliate. Whilst the instructions state to do this after moisturising, I haven’t been using my serum or moisturiser on the nights I have been using this. I felt as though moisturising would hinder the objective of this product – drying out my blemishes. I haven’t had any issues with dryness since using this so I will continue to skip these steps on the nights I do use this. I will only be using this maximum two nights a week and, of course, only when it’s needed.

This product claims to skrink whiteheads over night and it does exactly that. Whilst my blemishes weren’t completely gone the morning after, they were drastically smaller, much less red and angry and so much easier to conceal. I honestly believe this product drastically increases the speed at which your blemishes heal.

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion contains Salacylic Acid, calamine and other super drying ingredients. This product really lives up to its name. Whilst it is a drying lotion, as mentioned, I haven’t had any issues with dryness of my skin. The only thing this little guy has an effect on, are my pesky little blemishes! This is also great for body acne and they also recommend it to help with the itchiness from mosquito bites. Being a mosquito magnet myself (and living next to mangroves) I can vouch for this. After seeing the recommendation, I tried it on all 14 of my current bites and it really did help with the itching, which in turn will help the healing of my bites. No scratching = no scabs (Ew I hate that word)! Yay!

I have read a few reviews that have complained about the smell of the product. Whilst it's a strong smell, I don’t believe it’s overwhelming. It just smells really clean to me. Like a hospital almost.

The cost is AU$26.95 from Mecca Maxima in Australia. I can see this bottle lasting me a good few months so it’s definitely worth the money.

Let me know in the comments below if you've used this product! Do you love it as much as me?

Keep smiling!

Work Desk Essentials

If, like me, you work at a desk for 8-9 hours of the day, you’ll know how dull and boring the work day can be when you’re confined to one space for a long period of time. Over the years I’ve found the more I made my space “my own” the more I didn’t mind being there. Personalising your work space is important to keep a positive mind during your work day. It allows little escapes when you just need to take your eyes away from the screen for a few minutes.  Being that most days I don’t get away from my desk, I sometimes forget about the important things, like drinking enough water. I have compiled a list of my ‘work space essentials’ and have also included a little things you need throughout the day.

Water Jug

As you all know (or should know) we need on average, around 2L of water per day. If you’re like me and get so caught up in doing work, then drinking lots of water can be a challenge. To make this a little easier on myself, I invested in a 1L jug and a glass to keep at my desk. I fill it once in the morning and aim to finish it before my lunch break (whatever I have left I drink over lunch). I then fill it again after lunch and drink that litre before the day is out “et voila!” Two litres down the hatch and I figure any water I drink at home after work is a bonus.

There are so many pretty water jugs out there and you can even get creative and use milk jugs or vases – anything that can hold water really.

Here are some of my favourites I found online.

Top Left - Target $12, Top Rght - Kmart $8.50, Bottom Left - Ikea $9.99, Bottom Right - Ikea $2.99

Mug

I don’t know about you but I hate using office mugs. They all look the same, they’re always dirty when you get them from the cupboard and you don’t know where they’ve been (or you do and that’s why you hate using them). I do love my morning green or peppermint tea and I love drinking it out of my very own mug. I know exactly where it’s been and it’s mine (and its super pretty). Having your own mug adds extra character to your workspace and if yours is as pretty as mine, it’s a conversation starter with your colleagues who will soon follow suit and get their own mug.
(TIP: if you work in an office, wash your mug yourself. If you put it in the dishwasher along with the others, I can almost guarantee it will disappear before you get the chance to get it back. People are drawn to pretty colours so it will stand out and someone will take it and claim it as their own!)

Top Left - Ikea $2.99, Top Right - Freedom $5.95, Bottom Left - Freedom $6.95, Bottom Right - Kmart $2

Hand Cream

Working in airconditioning can be extremely drying on your skin. Having a good hand cream at your desk is a big help for keeping your mittens nice, soft and hydrated. I apply my hand cream to my hands, arms and elbows at least once an hour (people tell me this is excessive but hey, I hate having dry skin).

Here a few of my favourite hand creams. The Norwegian Formula by Neutrogena is the best for hydration but any hand cream by MOR will have your coworkers asking what perfume you just sprayed because they want to buy it!

Top Left - MOR Hand Cream in Neroli Clementine  Priceline $14.95, Top Right - Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Hand Cream Priceline $19,99, Bottom Left - Neutrogena Norwegian Formul Hand Cream Priceline $7.99, Bottom Right - Burt's Bees Beeswax & Banana Hand Creme Priceline $19.99

Hand Sanitiser

I maybe a bit pedantic when it comes to hand sanitiser but if there is a place to be pedantic about germs, it’s the work place! I always have a bottle with me in my bag, on my desk and in my car.

I work in an office with over 100 people so I’m not exactly trusting that each of them is as germ conscious as me (when I say germ conscious I mean washing hands, cleaning the kitchen with a clean cloth etc.) You never know what you’re touching so having this handy makes me feel at ease knowing I’m not spreading more germs and I have less chance of getting sick.

These days, there are so many hand sanitsers on the market. Just be sure they are the ones that don’t need water and kill at least 99.99% of germs (I always wonder what happens to that 0.01% lol)

The new Dettol one has added moisturiser which is great as hand sanitiser can dry out the skin, but if you have your hand cream handy, it won’t really matter.

Lip Balm

I don’t know if it’s just me but I can’t live without lip balm. I need it on my lips 24/7 (ok maybe 16/7 but you get the idea) whether it’s under my lipstick/ lip stain/ lip gloss or just by itself. Dry, cracked lips is a major pet hate of mine and I can’t stand it on me or anyone else. There is just no excuse for dry lips… am I right? I keep a selection of lip balms in my handbag and one has a home on my desk. I apply randomly throughout the day (if you ask my work mates, they’ll tell you I do it every five minutes). It keeps my lips nice and soft and happy.

The world of lip balms is endless. So many flavours, so many with pretty packaging. The lip balm world is your oyster. Here are a few of my favourites (always have and always will be obsessed with Chapstick! The strawberry one has been my favourite for years I couldn't even tell you how many sticks I've been through!)

Compact Mirror

How else are you going to check your teeth after lunch and snack times? Also very handy to check how your makeup is going and whether you need a freshen up and just to make sure you’re still beautiful.

There are so many gorgeous compact mirrors . I’m sure I have over ten at home but here are some pretty ones I found online.

Top Left - Oroton $25-$55, Top Right - Alannah Hill $29, Bottom Left - prettyhomestyle.com.au $10, Bottom Right - Brighton.com $28

Photos

We all know work (even if we do what we love) can sometimes get a bit much and we need to take a little break. Having photos of friends, holidays and loved ones around your desk can make work that little bit easier, whether its day dreaming about returning to Disneyland or remembering the reason you work so hard. The more you can do to stay positive, the better. Motivational quotes are also good to have around your work space (to keep you motivated of course).

Flowers/ Plants

If you’re lucky enough to have a special someone in your life that sends you flowers to work on a regular basis then I am jealous. I am not so lucky, however, I love having fresh flowers around me (especially my favourites – lillys). Whilst this might not be practical in some offices, I think having flowers or  a plant at your desk is a great way to brighten it up. They don’t even have to be real. Most fake flowers and plants these days look real enough. Having a plant to water each day could even be a great experiment (see how long you can keep it alive).

Here are some great looking flowers (fake) I found online.

At the end of the day having a positive work space is essential for staying positive throughout your work day/ week/ month/ year/ life. We need to create a positive and happy work station that we actually like to go to.

Happy redecorating!

Keep smiling!
